Smart Fitness Summit -24/25th April 2009
On the weekend of the 25th & 26th April, EXF participated in the very first SMART Fitness Functional Training Summit at The Falcons’ Stadium, Newcastle.
Over 30 Strength & Conditioning Coaches and Fitness Professionals made the trip to the North East to hear top speakers share their knowledge.
After a brief introduction from SMART Fitness Managing Director Nick Grantham, the Summit kicked off in style with a 3 hour presentation by Coach Robert Dos Remedios.
Coach Dos, one of the USA’s top Strength & Conditioning coaches, spoke about ‘Power Training Through Performance Based Conditioning’ and featured his “top 10 things I see people doing wrong in gyms today”.
A very entertaining and insightful 3 hours was followed by a break for lunch and then a presentation by Nick Grantham and EIS S&C Coach Neil Parsley.
Their talk outlined ‘Total Training for Combat Sports’ and delegates participated with practical examples of training techniques.
The afternoon included presentations from Nick Ward (National Lead S&C Coach for TASS) and another from Coach Dos. Nick Wards’ presentation on the ‘Performance Planning Matrix’ gave the delegates a great tool for measuring performance, justifying training and quantifying results. This can help S&C Coaches validate their role within an organisation.
In the final presentation of the day, Coach Dos showed delegates how to get more out of their sessions in less time with ‘Combination Lifts’. The day was full of information which was no doubt discussed after hours over a couple of drinks.
The second and final day began with Coach Dos’ CHAOS Speed Training, a practical based session outside The Falcons’ stadium. The uncertainty of movement patterns makes these drills much more applicable to team sports than simply straight line running.
The final presentation by Nick Grantham and Coach Dos focussed on ‘Core Conditioning’ a subject relevant to all delegates, regardless of their sport.
Throughout the weekend EXF supplied the equipment for all demonstrations whether Olympic Lifting, Speed Training or Core Conditioning.
Big thanks to Nick Grantham and Coach Dos for making the weekend such a success and we look forward to the next one.
Make sure to check the website for regular updates.

It can also help to relive stress, anxiety and depression in immobile/recovering patients. EXF Fitness we are also aware that more research desperately needs to be done so we are happy to donate 50p per unit sold to Age Concern to help fund and build towards the care we may all one day rely on. For more information on the Lymgym or to place an on-line order, please visit our sister website www.lymgym.com. |

In total, EXF equipped Powerbase with over 30 stations as part of a £200,000 refurbishment. Many of the stations were specially modified to cater for the differing needs of the users, from Rugby Teams like the Leicester Tigers, to Chris Rawlings the GB hurdler as well as the individuals from the local community. The sports conditioning manager was delighted with the finished results. "The result has been awesome, world class athletes use this facility and their response has been overwhelmingly positive". EXf has now supplied equipment to 4 sites at Loughborough, including the swimming pools, Powerbase, the high performance centre which was built to complement the existing track and field facilities. |
