EXF FITNESS HELPS FUNDRAISER GET ON HER BIKE - 11/12/2009

For 20 years EXF Fitness has provided high class training equipment and professional advice to domestic and commercial gyms as well as elite sports.

We are also keen to support charitable efforts. And when Greene King Brewery's Elaine Beckett asked to borrow an

exercise bike to help her prepare for the Lawrence Dallaglio Cycle Slam, EXF did better than that.

The company gave her a premium quality spinning bike and a detailed training programme devised by Nick Grantham a leading sports scientist and former director of the English Institute of Sport.

“Their support has been amazing and far more than I could have wished for”, said Elaine who will be cycling from Paris to London as part of the marathon event that sees teams taking legs of the entire rugby six nations fixture venues: Rome, Paris, London, Cardiff, Dublin and Edinburgh. The aim is to raise £1million for Sport Relief and The Dallaglio Foundation.

Details can be found at www.dallagliocycleslam.com. And if you would like to sponsor Elaine in her wonderful 442km money raising effort you can do so at www.justgiving.com/Elaine-Beckett .

Want to fix your clients injuries 09/10/2009

Want to fix your clients injuries? As a fitness coach (S&C coach, personal trainer, sports coach), there are times when you need to be able to keep your clients and athletes in a training routine even if they are injured. Whilst the ideal situation is to work with a physio, there are times when you are on your own and you still need to get the job done.

This is where the Rehab Trainer course fits in. Nick Grantham one of our partner coaches is hosting the 4 day Rehab Trainer course at his facility in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This is a short course designed specifically to give coaches unique new knowledge and skills which are guaranteed to boost their ability and confidence to meet an injured client's needs.

An intensely practical and cutting edge 4-day course, Rehab Trainer was written by highly experienced Australian Sports Physiotherapist Ulrik Larsen, who brings with him 17 years of injury management at elite and social sports levels. You will learn how to become an active force in rehabilitating your injured clients through their low-risk injury and back to full fitness. You may be wondering if this course is for you. If any of this applies to you then you need to be booking yourself on the course:-

  • You currently have injured clients and don’t know what rehab you can implement.
  • You would like a more in-depth understanding of bio-mechanics and how it relates to gym-based injuries.
  • You would like to expand your referral base.
  • You would like increased success in training your clients with knee pain, low back pain or shoulder pain.

Britains Strongest Man - 13/09/2009
Sunday 13th September saw the finals of the Britain’s Strongest Man 2009 (under 105Kg) competition at Krunch Gym, Waltham Abbey. EXF helped ensure the day ran smoothly by supplying most of the equipment for the events. There were 3 categories for the competitors; ‘Novice’, ‘Britains Strongest Man Under 105kg’ and ‘the open Londons Strongest Man’. Many of the Novice competitors were taking part in their first Strongman competition and everyone gave an excellent account of themselves.

The day included 5 events; the Log Press, Farmers Walk, Tyre Flip, the Axle Lift and the Atlas Stones. In the Log Press the competitors had to lift the log (90kg for the Novices and 120kg for the rest) from the floor and then press it overhead as many times as they could in 90 seconds. The Farmers walk was equally tough with the bigger guys having to

complete the 50metre course as quickly as possible carrying 130kg in each hand. Some impressive displays of strength, endurance and sheer willpower saw a keenly contested event with less than a second between the top 3. In the tyre flip reigning Britain’s Strongest Man, Terry Hollands, made light work flipping the giant 525kg+ tyre and beat the second best score with over 30 seconds left to spare. In the penultimate event the competitors had to lift an Atlas stone weighing well over 100kg and lift it over a 5ft bar, the Atlas Stone was then rolled back to the competitor and they had to repeat as many times in 90 seconds as possible. The final event was lifting the Atlas Stones on to a plinth - which ranged from 120kg to 180kg and only Terry Hollands managed to put all 4 stones up on the plinth.

The day was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by the hundreds of spectators who turned out at Krunch Gym. The competitors showed great strength, determination and camaraderie. The overall title of Britain’s Strongest Man under 105Kg was won by Paul Wood whilst Terry Hollands retained his Londons Strongest Man title winning every single event and ensuring qualification to the World’s Strongest Man event.

We would like to thank Lawrence Browne (www.powershotsmag.com) who promoted the event for all of his advice and support.
